Nutritional Therapy

You are what you eat... what do you want to be?

Your body has tremendous powers of healing, and nutritional therapy helps harness its innate drive for wellness. Many people endure health problems everyday without realising that a small dietary change or supplement could make all the difference. Medication often targets symptoms, whereas nutritional therapy aims to address the underlying causes.

Imagine what would happen if a warning light came on in your car...

but instead of investigating, you taped over it and kept on driving! So when indigestion or aching joints signal something is wrong, why reach for acid blockers or pain killers?

Medication helps manage symptoms, but often fails to resolve problems.

Nutritional therapists are trained to recognise these warning signals and make nutritional or lifestyle recommendations to correct imbalances and optimise health.

For short and long term health, good nutrition is key.

For preventative health, for recovery, and for diagnosed conditions, nutritional therapy may provide hope, answers and treatment lacking from conventional healthcare.

About Emma

"Coming from a family with generations of doctors, an interest in health wasn't surprising. Chancing on a pioneering book about nutrition however, was transformative. The idea that poor health is not natural, that degenerative disease is not inevitable, that our everyday health, our well-being, our longevity and the health of future generations is not just shaped, but is so fundamentally dependent on our diet – it seems obvious now, but then it was a total revelation. After attending the Institute for Optimum Nutrition for four years of scientific and clinical training, I opened my own practice in 2005 and feel very privileged to meet and support so many people and share their journeys to better health."

New clients often worry that Nutritional Therapy is largely about vegetable juices and deprivation, and is all a bit of a hassle really. What a revelation to find that their diets become more enjoyable, not less! Health improvement shouldn’t be an ordeal, and food should be a pleasure. Emma doesn’t live on brown rice and celery sticks, and certainly doesn’t expect anyone else to either.

Everyone is encouraged to keep in touch for advice and encouragement throughout their treatment programme. When you enlist the help of a nutritional therapist, you enlist an ally. You might not always follow all the recommendations – that’s OK. Emma invests considerable time, energy and care into each patient, but ultimately she is there to help you, not to criticise.

With so much misinformation and expensive quackery out there, Emma founded Edinburgh Nutrition to provide patients with accurate testing, up-to-date research, and effective health strategies. Treatments are as effective, affordable, easy and enjoyable as possible. No pseudo-scientific gadgetry, no gimmicky supplements, no calorie-counting, no weird foods (OK, maybe a few...)!

Emma recognises that every individual has unique requirements and takes time to define a personalised strategy, rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. She is absolutely passionate about the huge impact nutrition has on everyone, young and old, and believes that we all have a right to understand our bodies and be empowered to achieve
optimal health and well-being.

"I found Emma 4 years ago when my heath stared to decline rapidly. I was leaning into autoimmunity, had pre-diabetes and anxiety attacks. My condition has stabilized, my sugar levels are moving down, slowly but surely. And I am back for support. This time to ease menopause symptoms. It has been real blessing having such support. Especially for those of us who love natural approach. Many thanks."
